A perfect crane with a cut sling or a misunderstood signal is still an accident waiting to happen. In this theory course for lifting supervisors, signallers, riggers and HSE technicians, you follow the team of a fictitious company as it prepares and carries out the critical lift of a heat exchanger next to a live gas facility. Learn the roles of the lifting team (appointed person, supervisor, operator, rigger and signaller), the classification of lifts as routine, complex and critical, the types of crane, and the inspection and thorough examination of equipment. Interpret a lift plan: weight and centre of gravity, load chart and radius, ground, outriggers and mats, wind, power lines, exclusion zone, tandem lifts and lifts over live plant, approval and the pre-lift meeting. Select and inspect slings, wire rope and chain slings, shackles and eyebolts, understand the working load limit, the effect of the leg angle and rigging configurations, and apply rejection criteria, edge protection and tag lines. Communicate through a single signaller, standard hand signals and radio, including blind lifts. Finally, follow the execution with the trial lift and analyse typical failures in a case study. Aligned with IOGP good practice, ISO 12480-1 and ISO 16715. Includes an Excel lift plan template, an accessory inspection guide, a signals chart and a radio protocol. This course is theoretical and does not replace certified practical training, the certification of operators, riggers and signallers, or site authorisation. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
What you will learn
- Describe the organisation of lifting operations, the roles of the team and the classification of lifts.
- Explain the daily inspection and thorough examination of equipment and the control of lifting accessories.
- Interpret the elements of a lift plan, including weight, radius, load chart, ground, wind, power lines and the exclusion zone.
- Select and inspect lifting accessories and rigging configurations, taking into account the effect of the leg angle.
- Apply the rules of communication and signalling, including standard hand signals, radio and blind lifts.
- Analyse typical failures in lifts and the related prevention measures, recognising the limits of a theory course.
