Recommended prerequisite: SST-101 Workplace Safety Induction (HSE Induction)
On a building site, in a mine or at a logistics park, machines weighing tens of tonnes and people on foot share the same space, and the operator cannot see everything around them. In this course for supervisors, operators and HSE technicians in construction, mining and logistics, you follow a fictitious construction company at a logistics platform, with examples from an open-pit mine. Identify the risks of mobile equipment (being struck, crushing, overturning, falling loads and collisions), blind spots and the dangers of reversing. Draw up the essential elements of a traffic management plan: separation of pedestrians and vehicles, one-way systems, speeds, routes, signage, lighting, loading and unloading, parking, visitors and deliveries. Apply the manoeuvring rules, the position and signals of the banksman, eye contact, radio, electronic aids and the rules near trenches and power lines. Finally, check that operators and machines are fit for work: authorisation, pre-use checks, seat belts and protective structures, stability and safe parking. Aligned with UK HSE guidance HSG136 and ILO Convention C176. Theory course: it does not replace certified practical training or operator certification. Includes a traffic plan template, a banksman card and pre-use checklists. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
