On a drilling rig, an FPSO or a logistics base, English is often the common working language. This is a Portuguese-language course that teaches technical English to Portuguese speakers: all explanations are given in Portuguese, and the English terms, phrases and documents are what you learn. Designed for Portuguese-speaking professionals and candidates for the oil sector and for suppliers, it follows a technician on his first rotation on board a fictitious floating production unit. Recognise the vocabulary of the value chain, from the well to the process, the roles on board, false friends between Portuguese and English and the pronunciation of the most common terms. Understand alarms, announcements, permits to work, the authority to stop work and the IOGP Life-Saving Rules in English, and report a hazard in simple sentences. Communicate by radio with the phonetic alphabet, numbers and readback, learn the IMO SMCP standard phrases and carry out a structured shift handover. Extract information from procedures, data sheets, P&IDs and daily reports. Take part in meetings, write emails and reports and tell a client about a delay. Includes phrase cards, a radio card, a shift handover template, a list of abbreviations, an English-Portuguese glossary and email templates. It is not taught in English and is not aimed at native English speakers. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
