A risk assessment that has been signed and filed protects nobody. In this course for supervisors, HSE technicians and operational managers, you follow the review of the risk assessment of a fictitious construction and industrial maintenance company after a near miss in a warehouse. Learn to explain the concepts of hazard, risk, exposure, likelihood, severity, inherent and residual risk and ALARP, and the risk management cycle. Identify hazards with a range of techniques (inspections, task analysis, interviews, incident history and safety data sheets), in routine and non-routine activities, without forgetting contractors, visitors, emergencies and vulnerable groups. Rate risks consistently with a 5×5 matrix, calibrate the team and understand the limitations of matrices. Propose controls using the hierarchy of controls, identify critical controls and build an action plan with owners, deadlines and approval of residual risk. Finally, draw up, communicate and review a living risk register. With examples from building sites, workshops, warehouses and offices, aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 31000 and ILO guidance. Includes downloadable templates: glossary, list of hazard sources, Excel risk matrix, action plan, critical control sheet and risk register template. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
