Noise-induced hearing loss does not hurt, develops gradually and cannot be cured. Vibration from tools and machines also leaves its mark: white fingers, tingling, loss of strength and lower back pain. In this awareness course you will understand how the ear works, what the decibel means and how to recognise when noise is too loud. You will learn about the effects of hand-arm and whole-body vibration, the warning signs and the duty to report. And you will learn to protect yourself: the control measures of the hierarchy, mandatory hearing protection zones, the correct fitting of earplugs and earmuffs, and health surveillance. With examples from building sites, workshops, mines and industrial facilities, aligned with ILO Convention No. 148, the ILO code of practice on ambient factors in the workplace and UK HSE guidance. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
