A vessel, a pipe or a valve rarely fails overnight: it degrades little by little, and asset integrity exists to detect and stop that degradation before a loss of containment. In this intermediate course, you follow Inês, an integrity engineer who has just joined the FPSO Horizonte Azul, a fictitious deepwater unit. Understand what asset integrity means across the life cycle, safety-critical elements and performance standards, and the role of operations, inspection, maintenance and engineering. Identify the main damage mechanisms (CO2 and H2S corrosion, corrosion under insulation, erosion, fatigue and cracking), with the API RP 571 catalogue as a reference. Choose inspection and non-destructive testing techniques suited to each mechanism and learn about corrosion monitoring. Apply the principles of risk-based inspection aligned with API RP 580 in a spreadsheet, and manage anomalies, protection against degradation and integrity indicators in a case study. Includes downloadable fact sheets, an Excel exercise and a case. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Explain what asset integrity is, its dimensions and its link to process safety.
  • Recognise safety-critical elements and the role of performance standards.
  • Identify the main equipment damage mechanisms and the conditions that promote them.
  • Choose inspection and monitoring techniques suited to each damage mechanism.
  • Apply the principles of risk-based inspection to prioritise equipment and define an inspection plan.
  • Manage anomalies, protection against degradation and integrity indicators day to day.
