Every barrel of oil and every cubic metre of gas exported is the basis for taxes, for sharing production between partners and for invoices to buyers. In this course for metering technicians, production engineers and hydrocarbon accounting and regulatory staff, you follow a fictitious team on an FPSO tied back to two fields. Explain the economic and contractual importance of fiscal metering, custody transfer and allocation. Describe oil metering systems, turbine, positive displacement, ultrasonic and Coriolis meters, provers, the meter factor and temperature and pressure corrections. Describe gas metering with orifice plates and ultrasonic meters, chromatography and calorific value. Understand sampling and estimate the uncertainty of a simple system using the GUM approach. Apply an allocation method between fields and partners and learn about reconciliation, disputes and audits. Includes spreadsheets with fictitious data. It does not qualify you to calibrate, verify or certify fiscal metering systems. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Explain the economic and contractual importance of fiscal metering, custody transfer and allocation.
  • Describe oil metering systems, verification with a prover and the calculation of net standard volume.
  • Describe gas metering systems and the determination of gas quality and energy.
  • Recognise the requirements for representative sampling and a chain of custody for samples.
  • Estimate the uncertainty of a simple metering system with an uncertainty budget.
  • Apply a method of allocation between fields and partners and recognise good practice in reconciliation and dispute resolution.
