Learn to manage a reservoir and to decide how an oil field is developed. In this expert-level course, you follow the asset team of a fictitious operator on a deepwater field, a mature onshore field and a new discovery, and learn to relate rock and fluid properties to reservoir behaviour, to build and challenge the geological model, to identify recovery mechanisms, to plan water or gas injection, to evaluate enhanced oil recovery, to interpret simulations and decline curves, to plan surveillance, to structure a development plan that uses the gas without routine flaring and to compare alternatives using economic and risk criteria. With decision scenarios, interactive images, Excel exercises and an integrated case. Aligned with the SPE-PRMS and the World Bank's Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 initiative. It does not qualify you to estimate or certify reserves for official reporting; always confirm the applicable law and the contract. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Explain the objectives and organisation of reservoir management throughout the life of the field.
  • Relate rock and fluid properties to reservoir behaviour and calculate the oil initially in place.
  • Describe how the static reservoir model is built and how geological uncertainty is handled.
  • Identify a reservoir's drive mechanism from pressure, gas and water data.
  • Plan water or gas injection in theory and monitor it with voidage replacement.
  • Evaluate enhanced recovery and management options for a mature field.
  • Interpret a production forecast and its uncertainty, including decline curves.
  • Plan reservoir surveillance on the basis of the value of information.
  • Structure a field development plan, including the use of gas without routine flaring.
  • Evaluate development alternatives using economic criteria and taking risk into account.
  • Present and defend an integrated development plan for a fictitious deepwater field.
