Category: SKU: OGP-304 Categories: , ,

An FPSO is a processing plant, a tank farm and a terminal, all floating in deep water. In this advanced course, you follow the team of the FPSO Horizonte Azul, of the fictitious operator Atlântico Sul Petróleos, and learn how one of these units works: the concept, the life cycle and the organisation on board; spread mooring and the turret, the lines, the swivel and the risers; the link between the process and the cargo tanks, with inert gas, crude oil washing, ballast and MARPOL Annex I; offloading to shuttle tankers, with weather limits and communication; the specific risks and barriers, from collision to evacuation; and hull integrity management throughout the service life. Content aligned with ISO 13702:2024, the OCIMF GOTO guidelines (2018), MARPOL Annex I and the ISM Code. A theory course: it does not replace certified practical training, including offshore survival training (e.g. OPITO BOSIET/HUET), or qualification for offloading operations. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Describe the concept, functions, life cycle and organisation on board of an FPSO.
  • Compare spread mooring with the turret and explain the role of the mooring lines, the swivel, the risers and metocean conditions.
  • Explain the relationship between the topsides process and the cargo tanks, including inert gas, crude oil washing, ballast and MARPOL Annex I.
  • In a scenario, decide the conditions for safe offloading to a shuttle tanker, aligned with the OCIMF GOTO guidelines.
  • Analyse the specific risks of an FPSO and the control measures, including fire and explosion, collision, stability, hazardous atmospheres and evacuation.
  • Plan hull integrity management throughout the service life, including inspection, corrosion, life extension and shutdowns.
