Recommended prerequisite: SST-101 Workplace Safety Induction (HSE Induction)
Falls from height are among the most serious causes of workplace accidents, and many happen during short tasks carried out without planning. In this theory course for workers and supervisors, you follow a team from a fictitious construction and industrial maintenance company on a building site and at a fuel depot. Learn to plan work at height according to the avoid, prevent and minimise hierarchy, paying attention to the weather and falling objects. Check, as a user, guardrails, opening covers, nets, fragile roofs, portable ladders, mobile elevating work platforms and scaffolds: inspection tag, guardrails and toe boards, fully boarded platforms, access by ladder and a stable base. Understand how personal fall restraint and fall arrest systems work, anchor points, clearance height, harness inspection and suspension trauma. Finally, see why rescue is planned before work starts and how the work at height permit works. Aligned with ILO Convention No. 167 and the British HSE guidance on work at height. This course is theoretical and does not replace certified practical training (harness and fall arrest systems, mobile elevating work platforms, scaffold erection, rope access). The course is delivered in Portuguese.
