For many teams, performance appraisal is a form filled in hastily in December, with ratings that come as a surprise and conversations nobody wants to have. It does not have to be like that. In this Level 2 course you will learn to manage performance throughout the year: explain what it is for and who does what; set SMART objectives aligned with the team and the organisation, with the logic of management by objectives and an introduction to OKRs, weighting and behavioural competencies; monitor progress with regular conversations, adjust objectives when the context changes and record evidence; appraise with clear scales and descriptors, self-appraisal and an introduction to 360° appraisal, reducing biases such as recency, leniency, central tendency and the halo effect, with calibration sessions and without discrimination; and link the results to development, training, pay and progression, including improvement plans and appeals against the appraisal. You follow Sofia, an HR officer, and Carlos, the head of a project team, at a fictitious engineering company, through a complete annual cycle. Includes a short video with a quiz, a drag-and-drop activity, a decision scenario, an appraisal case study and a checklist with downloadable templates. Aligned with the ILO fundamental conventions on non-discrimination and equal remuneration; the specific rules in each country must be checked in the applicable labour and data protection legislation. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
