Every well eventually produces less: reservoir pressure falls, water increases and, one day, the well stops flowing on its own. In this course for production technicians and engineers and operations supervisors, you follow a fictitious production team on subsea wells tied back to an FPSO and on an onshore field. Explain well performance with the productivity index, the inflow performance curve and tubing performance, and recognise when artificial lift is needed. Describe gas lift, from the unloading sequence to the response curve, and diagnose instability and failed valves. Identify the components of an electric submersible pump system, aligned with ISO 15551, and the causes of failure. Learn about beam pumping, the progressive cavity pump, the jet pump and plunger lift, and choose the right method for each well. Use well tests and indicators to optimise gas allocation and prioritise interventions. Includes a diagnostic guide, a selection matrix and spreadsheets with fictitious data. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Explain why a well's production declines, using the productivity index, the inflow performance curve and tubing performance.
  • Describe how gas lift works, the unloading sequence and the injection response curve.
  • Diagnose typical gas lift problems, such as instability and failed valves.
  • Identify the components of an electric submersible pump system and the causes of failure.
  • Choose the artificial lift method suited to a type of well, using technical and economic criteria.
  • Use well test data and indicators to optimise the distribution of lift gas and prioritise interventions.
