Recommended prerequisite: PSC-101 Introduction to Procurement and the Supply Chain

Buying well is not just about getting a good price on the next order: it is about deciding, with data, how the organisation should buy each category over the coming years. This course takes you from the role of operational buyer to that of category manager. You will learn the six-step strategic sourcing process, build and interpret a spend analysis by category and supplier, position categories on the Kraljic matrix and choose the right approach for each quadrant. You will also study the supply market using information sources, requests for information (RFI) and Porter's five forces, and develop a sourcing strategy with options, risks, a business case and an implementation plan. Follow the procurement team of a fictitious food products company through practical cases, a spend analysis exercise in Excel and a ready-to-use category strategy template.
