Working in the sun on a building site, in an open-pit mine or on a platform, or near furnaces, engines and industrial kitchens, puts the body to the test. Heat stress reduces concentration, increases accidents and can lead to heatstroke, a medical emergency that can kill. In this course you will understand how the body defends itself against heat and who is most at risk, apply prevention measures (gradual acclimatisation, regular hydration, shade, breaks, working hours and the buddy system) and gain a basic understanding of work-rest schedules based on the WBGT index. You will also learn to recognise heat-related illnesses and to give the correct first response to an affected colleague. Aligned with ISO 7243 and the ILO code of practice on ambient factors in the workplace. The course does not replace individual medical advice or practical first aid training. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
