Sending an employee to work in another country is a large investment and a process with many risks: visas and permits, tax and social security, packages that are hard to explain, families that do not adapt and expatriates who leave the company soon after returning. In this Level 2 course, you follow Fernanda, an international mobility officer at Atlântico Engenharia, a fictitious company, as she prepares Kiala's expatriation, from the policy to the return. You will distinguish the types of international mobility (long-term and short-term assignments, business trips, rotational arrangements, local hiring) and the elements of an expatriation policy; compare the balance sheet, host-based and hybrid approaches and calculate a simple package in an Excel calculator, with illustrative amounts in USD, including cost-of-living, housing, schooling and hardship allowances, travel and the concept of tax equalisation; plan visas, permits, health insurance and social security in general terms, with a mobilisation checklist; prepare the expatriate and family, with intercultural training, support on arrival and travel safety aligned with ISO 31030; and plan the return, knowledge transfer to local staff and indicators of assignment success. Immigration, tax and social security rules vary from country to country: the course teaches the method and international good practice and reminds you, at each step, when to involve specialists. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
