Recommended prerequisite: SST-101 Workplace Safety Induction (HSE Induction)
Lifting a sack, pushing a trolley or working near a crane are everyday tasks in warehouses, building sites and workshops, and they cause many injuries. In this theory course for warehouse, building site and maintenance workers, you follow two fictitious companies, one in logistics and the other in construction. Learn how musculoskeletal injuries arise and which factors cause them: task, individual, load and environment. Assess a task using the logic of the UK HSE MAC tool and choose measures to reduce the risk, starting by avoiding manual handling through mechanical aids. Practise the safe lifting technique, alone and as a team, including cement bags, drums and pipes. Finally, learn the rules for people working near cranes, hoists and forklifts: exclusion zone, suspended loads, a single signaller and visual checks of slings and lifting gear. Aligned with ISO 11228-1. Includes an Excel assessment sheet and two checklists. This course is theoretical and does not replace certified practical training. The course is delivered in Portuguese.
