Many of the highest-risk jobs at a facility are carried out by contractors: maintenance, shutdowns, scaffolding, lifting, industrial cleaning. The contract transfers the work, but it does not transfer all the responsibility. In this advanced course you learn to manage the full cycle on the client side: assess the risk of the contract and write HSE requirements into the scope of work, pre-qualify and select contractors with HSE criteria, prepare the contractor's HSE plan and the interface document, run mobilisation and the kick-off meeting, supervise execution through verification, monitoring and audit, intervene and escalate when needed, and close the contract with a performance evaluation and lessons learned. Aligned with IOGP Report 423 and clause 8.1.4 of ISO 45001 as references. With a continuous case of a maintenance contract at a fictitious gas processing facility, scenario-based decisions and downloadable templates. The course is delivered in Portuguese.

What you will learn

  • Explain why contractor HSE management requires its own cycle and distinguish the responsibilities of the client, the contractor and the subcontractor.
  • Classify the risk of a contract and define proportionate HSE requirements in the scope of work and in the evaluation of bids.
  • Pre-qualify and select contractors with HSE criteria, recognising the limits of historical data.
  • Prepare the contractor's HSE plan, the interface document and mobilisation, including induction and the kick-off meeting.
  • Supervise the contractor's HSE performance during execution and decide when to intervene and escalate.
  • Evaluate the contractor's final performance, record lessons learned and feed the supplier database.
